We visited this amazing UNESCO World Heritage site when we were in Peru a couple of weeks ago.  It is located in the mountains about 45 minutes south of Urubamba, Peru. A natural salt water spring at the top of this mountain feeds a series of 4000 small salt flats that are terraces into the side of the mountain. It has been a function salt flat for thousands of years. It looked like another planet. You could just pick up salt from the ground and eat it. If you ever go to Machu Picchu you must make this a side trip! It was one of the big highlights of our trip.
